What can you expect?
flipped classroom model
The class is in the flipped classroom model. That means class time is spent on practice, not a lesson. You watch the lecture & tutorial beforehand, and then we meet live to practice together. Everyone will get coaching from me to keep your practice moving in the right direction.
weekly lessons
Every Monday you'll receive an email with the weekly lesson. You'll read/watch the lesson material on your own, but you won't start practicing yet.
practice together
Every Tuesday at 8:30pm ET we'll meet live via a virtual platform for our “weekly class”. We'll review the skill, have group practice time, then individual practice time (with feedback from me), and time for questions.
real life stuff
You'll practice on your own the rest of the week, and you'll receive another email from me with suggested ways to use the skill in “real life”.
HEY,
I’m
nikki!
I'm a positive dog trainer who offers welfare-focused dog training programs and classes. After teaching obedience commands with a traditional mindset for many years, I finally realized that obedience is dead. Not only are “commands” unnecessary, but the whole philosophy that our beloved dogs owe us compliance is just downright ick.
Instead, I now teach cues—words that prompt our dogs to do certain behaviors—and I delight in finding ways to put those cues to good use in “real life” to get the kind of behavior we're looking for. Come join us!
faqs
does my dog need pre-requisite skills?
Not really! This class is perfect for beginners or dogs who are new to their home. The only pre-requisite is that your dog will eat food from your hand (or if you toss it to them).
do i have to train with food?
Yes. Food is the most user-friendly way to train.
what skills will we learn?
This class covers: touch, spin, ready find it/catch, and a few simple patterns like up-down, 123 and scatters. You will also learn how these skills can be used in “real life”.
what if i can't make the live lessons?
I will record each group class and you can watch it later if you want, but it won't be as helpful because the class doesn't contain the “weekly lesson”. The class is an opportunity to practice together and get instructor feedback to make sure your dog is learning.
is there sliding scale pricing?
There is one sliding scale tier available to choose for this class. Please understand that this class is already priced low. I am doing my best to offer affordable options!
did I mention there's an optional add-on?
vip video help!
You have the option to purchase a VIP seat which includes two SOS video submissions. If/when you're working on a skill at home and you need help, you can send me a video and I'll respond with customized guidance.
Shake off the chains of traditional obedience and start fresh with a cooperative approach!
